Profiting from efficient milk production

According to the DairyCo (UK) Milkbench+ report, the relationship between cost of production and profit is much stronger than many dairies realize. The report states that cost of production is the most significant factor in determining profit.

Milkbench+ analyst Karolina Klaskova says: “Through robust data and statistical analysis we see that the relationship between cost of production and margin is strong.” Ms Klaskova acknowledges that the findings are challenging. “The report raises many issues, including just how difficult it can be to make a profit from milk production,” she says.

The number of people involved with production agriculture in the USA is about 2% of the population. The other 98% of Americans have a connection to food but few have a connection to agriculture. So how can farmers and ranchers build a greater awareness for what they do?

We received a note from a reader on a post about Jeff Simmons (President of Elanco, a division of Eli Lilly and Company) sharing how Elanco sales teams felt working in the animal agriculture industry (http://agtoday.us/o9s5gU ). The person worked in the poultry industry in Arkansas and felt "very little positive information is being illustrated by the media" about his industry. He highlighted many of the valued activities the poultry industry does and told of the positive efforts to continuously improve the industry.
